Buck 65: Vertex

Vinyl Album Design (Print) • 2012

The Mission

As an operations assistant at Amelia Artists, I was tasked with putting together the album design for Buck 65’s limited vinyl release of Vertex (2013).

I worked directly with the artist manager and artist to produce the artwork. I also coordinated with the printers for the vinyl and cassette tape releases.

Rich (aka Buck 65) went for a more literal depiction of Vertex for the 2013 limited vinyl reissue. (See the 1997 original)

The goal was to keep the artwork super clean and simple.

My Role:

  • Graphic Design

  • Visual Design

Timeline: 2 Weeks (artwork)

Tools: Adobe Illustrator

Formats: vinyl, cassette tape

Design

For the front cover, I followed his drawing. After a couple of mocks, we chose a simple cursive font and a classic sky blue + fuchsia pink to highlight the ‘90s feel.

For the back cover, I went with the same colours to create an icosahedron. Fun fact: a regular icosahedron contains 12 vertices.

All in all, a really fun project!
